A Not So Typical

Homeschool Day

Lots of things can cause the family to not have a typical homeschool day….

Sometimes, they go on vacations or trips.  Depending on the nature of the activity, it may be counted as a field trip.  If they do count it as a field trip, they add an educational twist to it and even write a journal after the trip.  For example, they went to Cades Cove once and read a lot of historical information about the place as they drove around and toured the area.  They all learned a lot and it was fun, as well.

Sometimes, the kids are struggling with a subject and Nikkie feels like they need to spend extra time focusing on that subject.  A whole day may be spent doing nothing but working on that subject in whatever way necessary.

Sometimes, Nikkie has chores that she needs to do first thing in the morning and they’ll start school after lunch instead.  On those days, if they are not able to finish their work before supper, they can finish it after supper.

And sometimes, someone may be sick or just in a bad mood and school can be crazy.  Once, Matthew was in a bad mood and refusing to do his work, so Nikkie told him that was fine and he could sit at the table until it was finished even if it took until night.  He finally finished but it definitely was not the typical homeschool day.

A “not-so-typical homeschool day” can be fun if it’s different because of a trip.  Other times, it can just be frustrating.  But, regardless, the Corbins love homeschool and would choose this route above any other.  They know exactly what their children are learning and have the capability of spending as much time as needed to understand a subject or spend as little as needed when they already understand something.
